Colchester itself is made up of numerous smaller communities with their own distinct identities. The closely-knit Victorian terraces close to the town centre to the green and open developments further out. There are another 60 or so villages within 8 miles of the Town Hall, from tiny coastal hamlets to small country towns. You can explore a few of them through their web sites
Colchester also has many foreign relations. The town maintains strong ties to its continental twins: Avignon, Wetzlar and Imola, world famous for popes, cameras and motor racing respectively. There are also Colchesters in Connecticut, New York, Vermont and a whole county in Nova Scotia. All wonderful places, of course!
